Are you one of those people who want to update to iOS 5.1.1 but afraid that you will lose your unlock? Well folks do not worry as we now have redsnow which allows you to restore your unlock activation tickets and unlock your iPhone 4 baseband 4.11.08 or 4.12.01 on iOS 5.1.1. Check out the guide below for updating to iOS 5.1.1 without losing your unlock.
The popular jailbreaking tool Redsnow has been given a major update. It can now untether jailbreak iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, but the one thing most of you will be interested in is the ability to restore your unlock activation tickets, which allows you to unlock your iPhone on iOS 5.1.1.
Unlock iPhone Baseband 4.11.08 Using Redsnow
This guide will work on all those iOS devices who got their iPhone unlocked via the SAM unlock activation method which was opened only for a couple of days before Apple fixed it.
You are required to have your unlock activation tickets saved on computer for this method to work.
This guide will unlock any iPhone no matter what baseband they are on iOS 5.1.1 (including the infamous 4.11.08 and 4.12.01)
Procedure:
STEP 1: Download 0.9.12b1 for your iPhone.
STEP 2: Once downloaded plug in your iPhone and start Redsnow.
STEP 3: Click on Extras > Even more > Tickets.
STEP 4: A window will pop up. Simply search for the lockdown file you created when you backed up your iPhone. Select that file.
STEP 5: A message will show that your tickets have been uploaded.
STEP 6: Now reboot your iPhone.
STEP 7: Now insert your unofficial SIM card and you are good to go.
That’s it folks you will now have successfully unlocked your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS on any baseband.

i read a comment where a guy said he had his iphone with bb 4.12 unlocked by the retailer who sold the phone for him for just 120 bucks. the best way any one can possibly unlock your iphone4 with the dreaded 4.11 or 4.1201 bb is to give it to those who are specialized in factory unlocking of iphones in your locality or do it online with your imei number. Its simple, all they are going to do is do a total factory unlock for you, its gonna take just couple of days and your iphone will be unlocked officially by the carrier forever. one thing you all are failing to understand if factory unlocking of the iphone doesnt matter what bb you might be on, it works for all bb. the reason why people keep asking for the unlock of the bb 4.11 and 12 is because they dont wanna spend money fixing it, they want it for free. if you have the money you will have your phone factory unlocked. 100 to 150 dollars could do that pretty good. i advise you all to stop wasting your time waiting for an unlock solution and focus more on finding some one who does factory unlocking where you live and pay for this crap.

AT&T will NOT factory inlock your phone if it is still under contract. NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU PAY.

@rizmycool it best you find some one in your locality where you live who can do this factory unlock for you or if you have a friend in the U.S who has an at&t account, they can help you If yours is locked to AT&T. you will also be lucky because it is definite you will get it unlocked. because most cases of iphone that has been successfully factory unlocked are locked to AT&T network. mine was AT&T locked, and i’ll be going over in two days time to collect it. a friend of mine got his unlocked few days ago as well bb 4.11 AT&T locked. if you are just a user and not an hacker or a developer of these iphone jailbreaking softwares and stuff, i suggest you go for a factory unlocking or a factory unlocked iphone or else you are not going to have a full rest of mind using something you bought with your hard earned money. but if you are not lucky enough to have the service provider which your ihpone is locked to available for unlocking, i strongly suggest you sell it and buy a factory unlocked one.
and talking about your phone needs to be off contract before they can unlock.. its is not certain, as there are still those that unlocks iphones even while still under contract. if im not mistaking the iphone4 was released by June 24, 2010 and most likely so many signed up for 2 years contract with the AT&T network on their iphone4. judging from the time, the iphone4 has existed, there are still so many users of which i am a living proof has had their iphone4 AT&T locked unlocked. of which i am very sure its still under contract. so, i strongly suggest, you take your phone to those who can do the factory unlocking and see if they can unlock it and that will depend on the service provider which the phone is locked on to. go and and try your luck. or still you can wait for these hackers to find a solution, maybe that’ll take couple of weeks, months or maybe till the iphone5 is out. we cant tell.

I don’t even have to do these steps. I used NO_BB…ipsw and it unlocks itself after the restore and jailbreak. I guess is choose NO_BB… ipsw then the ticket will not be over-ridden and it stays on the hard disk on the iphone.

This is awesome guys. Some days ago I posted a thread on this blog that AT&T wasn’t willing to unlock my IN CONTRCT iPhone which I bought off a guy on eBay even though he upgraded to the iPhone 4S with AT&T. I spent like 2 weeks trying to get my iPhone unlocked with no luck..

Is there any chance that a SAM unlock has become a permanent factory unlock in Apple record of my IMEI number? I have not tested it using another SIM card yet. Just like to know why on IMEI record my iphone is considered factory unlocked!

As far as Sam is concerned, to what i know, it doesn’t work on any baseband anymore as Apple has blocked the servers.
And Yes, SAM WILL ONLY WORK if you have saved the previous activation tickets that were obtained when you unlocked your iPhone earlier (when SAM used to work). If you have done so, theres a procedure to use the OLD activation tickets again when unlocking the new baseband with SAM.

I accidentally upgraded to IOS 5 without thinking. I had a gevey sim card using T-Mobile on an AT&T Phone.
After the upgrade, the phone went back to being “unactivated”. I have 4.12.01. I just want it to work with T-Mobile again. Can I just use a AT&T sim card to activate the phone again? Or do I have to something else. Would highly appreciate any help I can get. Thanks!

Hi, in unlocked i4 with 4.11.08 via SAM. I backuped lockdown folder and upgraded to 5.1.1 (no bb upgrade) and restored lockdown folder with redsn0w and everthing works but everytime i open a app shows me “Connect to iTunes to Use Push Notifications” and notifications do not works.
Any one got yhis issue?

What about the iPhone 4s? Can you use this same technique to unlock the network since you are forced to Update to 5.1.1 BB 04.12.01..Iphone 4s Running 5.0.1 messed up after trying to jailbreak..All system applications are deleted except the useless ones.

So…I updated to 5.1.1 using iTunes. The phone is not jailbroken now BUT it is still unlocked (previously unlocked using SAM).
I will now jailbreak using redsnOw 0.9.12b1 and hopefully it will still be unlocked.
Did the jailbreak after upgrading to 5.1.1 and phone is still unlocked! Mint!
