We have a great news to report for those users who currently have baseband 6.15.00 (iPhone 3GS/ iPhone 3G). Musclenerd of the iPhone dev team has just tweeted mentioning that you will soon have the ability to downgrade baseband 6.15.00 to any lower baseband for working GPS and unlock. Read below for more details.
Those users who are unaware of baseband 6.15.00, well let me give you a heads up. The baseband 6.15.00 is an iPad baseband but those users particularly iPhone 3GS users were required to upgrade to 6.15.00 in order to get their iPhone unlocked. Which as you might have guessed was a very popular method for unlocking iPhone, but it had a huge draw back.
When iPhone users upgrade to baseband 6.15.00 to unlock their iPhone, their GPS did not work. GPS (Global Positioning System) is very essential for navigation, so those users with baseband 6.15.00 could not get navigation on their iPhone. Well it is all about to change thanks to musclenerd.
Musclenerd tweeted:
Made great progress yesterday on downgrade from BB 06.15 (for 3G/3GS owners who got officially unlocked). All the pieces are there

@eriksmets Yep! This lets you downgrade 3G/3GS from 06.15.00 to any prior BB (05.13.04 would be good pick: ultrasn0w + GPS both)
The ability to downgrade baseband 6.15.00 to lets say 5.13.04 would allow those users with a working GPS and still have their iPhone unlocked. As Ultrasnow is already out, you can already be on iOS 5.1.1 and get your iPhone unlocked and GPS still working for those users with baseband 6.15.00.
