As musclenerd promised that he would release a downgrade method for those iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G users, well the time is here now. iPhone Dev Team has released Redsnow 0.9.14b1 for iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS to downgrade baseband 6.15.00 to a lower one so you can make your GPS work. So folks go ahead and downgrade baseband 6.15.00 by downloading redsnow 0.9.14b1 for iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS.

Steps To Downgrade Baseband 6.15.00

  • Use the “Extras->Select IPSW” button in redsn0w to tell it which firmware version you have installed (new-bootrom 3GS users can usually skip this step but it doesn’t hurt for them to do it too).
  • Do a controlled shutdown of your iPhone (“slide to power off”).  This step is very important to avoid mount problems when the ramdisk is running!
  • Go back to the first screen and click “Jailbreak”.  Enable the “Downgrade from iPad baseband” checkbox, disable Cydia if you already have it installed, and click Next to proceed through the normal DFU ramdisk steps.

Download Redsnow 0.9.14b1 Windows

Download redsnow 0.9.14b1 from the links above and follow the steps to downgrade your baseband 6.15.00 to 5.13.04. This will allow your GPS to work and you can still unlock iPhone using Ultrasnow.

Problems While Downgrading Baseband

  • If you complete the entire process and you are still on baseband 6.15.00, try it again it should work in the next round.
  • If the baseband has been downgraded but no GPS or “no service”, try redsnow’s “Deactivate” option if you do not rely on using Ultrasnow anymore.
  • If you have an iPhone3GS and if digits 3-5 of its Serial Number are 134 or later (xx134…), then you should NOT try to install the 06.15 baseband on your 3GS! This will brick your iPhone making it useless.

  2. iPhone3GS_8B117_4.1_Sri

Appreciate MuscleNerd for trying so hard.
But dang dang dang, tried to do the 6.15 downgrade thrice with Windows 7, but baseband still at 6.15. Then had this “hope”, maybe the BB has downgraded but not reflecting in the device status. So popped the SIM card back in the phone and sheesh, NO BARS at all- No cellular signal. Got scared that maybe the radio itself is phut. Turned on Wifi, looks like Wifi is working - lucky break. At least, I can try ultrasnow now. Disappointment - even after removing or reinstalling the latest Ultrasnow NO BARS.
Now, I have just copied all into a XP machine and trying. Keeping fingers crossed and hoping that HE has some mercy. Will update.

  3. It does not work. I have tried about 10 times on my phone but to no avail. My phone is 3gs with IOS=4.2.1 and BB=6.15. Serial number indicates that phone was manufactured 34 week of 2010.
I would be grateful for any tips.

  4. 3GS made in 2010, jailbroken untethered on 5.1.1, 06.15.00 BB, and have completed the downgrade process many time to no avail.

After downgrade the BB still says 06.15.00, but I have no signal. I have tried reflashing 06.15.00 BB and using ultrasnow and still no luck getting a signal again. Wifi works though.

I also noticed that the battery life is very poor since attempting the downgrade too.

  5. What about iPhone 3G with 3.1.3? Redsn0w says IPSW is not supported by the specific version of Redsn0w that can do the downgrade! Any ideas???

    • maybe an older redsn0w version is needed to do yours, because most people already have ios 4.x.x or higher.

    • Same issue as yours , Have an iphone 3g 3.1.3 but redsnow says |that ipsw is not supported by this version of redsnow”
Any ideas how to downgrade bb on iphone 3g 3.1.3 ?

  6. Same as Alan and Stevo. 3gs week 11, year 2010, thetered to 5.1.1 BB 06.15.
Wifi is working, no carrier signal. After installing ios 5.1.1 and BB 05.16: the battery runs out of power by the end of the day.
I have done this jailbreaking thing so many times now, my wife thinks I have an online girlfriend. Please help, this is costing me my marriage.

  7. okay, so i did the downgrade, but how do i get ios 5.1 on my iphone? just by installing via itunes?

  8. shivwadhwa

iPhone 3GS built 2010 Jailbroken / unlocked 4.1 BB 06.15.00 I have tried 3 times to downgrade but Wifi stops working each time and no signal. Also the BB is not shown in the settings. If I again go back to iPad Baseband, everything gets normal.

    Please advice

  9. Worked Perfectly

Serial 85945xxxxxx. Looked like it was hangin at the updating baseband screen but eventually rebooted and now even GPS works :)

Now all I need is a patch to move it from ATT to verizon :)

Thanks for all your work. Patiently waited and it paid off

  10. Hi,

I used this tool and used the option “dowgrade ipas baseband”, it downgraded the baseband but the GPS was not fixed. I repeated the same procedure with just “Deactivate” option next time.
