Reuters Confirms 19 Pin Dock Connector For iPhone 5

By -

We finally have some confirmation regarding the up coming iPhone from Apple. Reuters is now reporting that iPhone 5 will feature a 19 pin dock connector instead of the 30-pin used in the current Apple devices.

We previously had many reports mentioning a 19-pin dock connector for the iPhone but it now seems that we have the confirmation from a very reliable source.

According to Reuters:

The iPhone 5, Apple’s next generation iPhone expected to go on sale around October, will come with a 19-pin connector port at the bottom instead of the proprietary 30-pin port “to make room for the earphone moving to the bottom”, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.

It was also previously confirmed by three independent sources that iPhone 5 will feature a 19-pin dock connector making this feature a “confirmed” one.

The new 19-pin dock connector for iPhone 5 will be somewhat good news for accessory makers as more iPhone accessories will be sold. Its not only good news for those makers but also for Apple itself, as it is very keen on saving space. A 19-pin dock connector will save some precious space in the new iPhone making room for a larger battery or maybe an NFC chip.

Although it might be good news for business but its the opposite for the end consumers who will now be forced to buy new dock speakers or other accessories that will be connected to the iPhone 5.

Well now it has been confirmed, what do you think about the 19-pin dock connector?
