Another breaking news from Broadcom hit the technological world and its about the BCM4335, the wireless chip for the portable devices. Apple has been connected to it for quite long time, as it has been using Broadcom chips for its iOS devices. Even the current iPad and iPhone use the Broadcom BCM4330 802.11a/b/g/n baseband/radio with Bluetooth 4.0+HS and FM transceiver.
It has been found now that like previous iPhone, the next iPhone will also be using Broadcom, with BCM4334 chip, which adds 40nm process and WiFi Direct capabilities to it. Bluetooth 4.0 and FM are going to be similar in this chip as in those before but the twist is in ability to save some power using an advanced standard. It also features an idle power consumption on industrial level, which makes the battery last for long.
Broadcom Introduces 5G WiFi Combo Chip for Smartphones and Tablets
First to Sample 802.11ac Solutions for Complete Ecosystem of Consumer Electronic Devices; 5th Generation of Wi-Fi Delivers Dramatic Speed, Range and Power Efficiency
IRVINE, Calif., July 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ –
In the semiconductor solutions for wired and wireless communication, Broadcom Corporation is a global innovation leader, which now introduces BCM4330, a complete 3G WiFi combo chip for the smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices, that includes Bluetooth 4.0, FM radio and software on a single chip using 40nm CMOS process.
The 5th generation of WiFi, 5G WiFi, is an evolutionary step that is based on the IEEE 802.11ac standard. Furthermore, with stronger connections, it allows the consumers to enjoy HD-quality videos and they can even download web content with 3X faster speed. This means that downloading same amount of data in less time automatically saves power and makes it more efficient than the mobile devices before.
Broadcom’s 5G WiFi chips brought world’s first 5G WiFi router and notebook to the market in Q2 2012. Now new BCM4330 for smartphones and tablets is expected to hit the markets in Qi 2013, which will bring an incredible experience to the consumer with speed, wide range and power saving capabilities of 5G WiFi.
BCM4330 is going to be another completely integrated solution for its consumer by Broadcom. Its amazing features further include wireless coexistence algorithms that mitigate radio interference, advanced “sleep modes” that extend battery life, and processing capabilities that off-load power-intensive tasks from the host processor. All these prove the perfection and deliverance of complete integrated solutions from Broadcom.
The new version of Broadcom’s wireless coexistence technology, BCN4330, is something complementary for Handset makers, as it minimizes the possibilities of of radio interference between Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and LTE, which operate in adjacent radio frequencies.
Bluetooth Special Interest Group’s LTE coexistence scheme is also promoted through this technology and it may also assist Broadcom LTE platforms and 4G cellular platforms from other vendors, in the future.
