All the Apple fans who are always craving to get the latest news of the next-gen iPhone got shocked when, on Thursdays morning a news met their ears. It says that New iPhone, so called iPhone 5 will cost $800! This rumor, coming from twitter, evoked a blazing feeling of fury among the people , for whom the was something never expected.
You can figure out the intensity of the popularity of this news by the fact that it became worlds second most popular news, while the hashtag #800DollarsForAniPhone at the early point of Thursday became the number-one nonpromoted trending topic throughout the world. This reaction, especially on twitter, is an evidence of how desperate people are for the coming smart phone from Apple. But this response was also gigantic when it comes to a mere phone.
Furthermore, many twitter users even made humerus comments over this shocking news to express their agitation, as one of them said that ”iPhone 5 $800? It better be waterproof, fireproof, crackproof, dirtproof, bulletproof also.” Whereas another said, ”iPhone 5 $800 ??? Better be able to touch their face when we FaceTime,”tweeted user @ODonLannie_ Thursday morning.
But its the time to find out the root of this news and what made it so popular on this social site, while previous rumors would merely made people bother. The first is an article on the website gamenguide.com, which showed a purported screenshot of a listing on the Chinese auction site that represents a photograph of that is thought to be that of iPhone 5, next to a price tag of $5,088 to $6,688, which the article says is the Chinese currency that is equivalent to 800 to 1,050 United States dollars. But the post goes on and says that it might be a scam, aimed at ripping off unwitting American Apple fans, as it says,
“Obviously, the iPhone will cost a pretty penny, but pigs will fly before it costs that much. Some sellers are even asking for a deposit, despite that they can’t give a delivery time for the product,” the article states. “Hopefully, not many will fall victim to potential scammers, and that seems to be the case for the time being.”
With that, another site that mentioned the two terms, iPhone 5 and $800 together was Reuters, which said that multiple ratings agencies and other firms are downgrading their outlooks for the company’s stock, as they are not expecting the new iPhone to be as famous among the people as the previous one. It suggested that,
“J.P. Morgan Securities cut its price target on the stock to $675 from $695, Raymond James slashed it to $730 from $800, and Canaccord Genuity reduced its target slightly to $797. Goldman cut its price target to $790 from $850.”
Another source for this rumor was a commenter on a phonesreview.co.uk article printed on July 20, who said,
“Propably [sic] $800-$900 US dollars for 64GB. That’s excluding taxes.”
But at the end of the day, none of the sources proved to be reliable enough to be believed and this news went to the category of rumors that are about the new iPhone and fascinates people, before its launch.
