iPhone 5, the most amazing iPhone yet has shattered all previous records held by a smartphone. Pre-orders for the iPhone 5 hit a record breaking 2 million in the first 24 hours blowing away the nearest competitors.
Apple today issued a statement mentioning the number of pre-orders they received via the Apple website for the iPhone 5. The numbers are off the roof, Apple sold a record breaking 2 million iPhone 5′s in the first 24 hours of the pre-order date!
To give you an idea on how many that is; when iPhone 4 was launched the pre-orders topped 600,000, when iPhone 4S got released the pre-orders topped 1 million and now, iPhone 5 has topped 2 million pre-orders!
If you do the maths that’s about 24 iPhone 5′s being sold every second for the next 24 hours! And, here people were saying it was a disappointment.
CUPERTINO, California—September 17, 2012—Apple® today announced pre-orders of its iPhone® 5 topped two million in just 24 hours, more than double the previous record of one million held by iPhone 4S. Demand for iPhone 5 exceeds the initial supply and while the majority of pre-orders will be delivered to customers on September 21, many are scheduled to be delivered in October.
Do note that this number only counts the pre-orders done through Apple’s official website or other official networks such as AT&T or Verizon, it does not include the numbers from other unofficial entities.
