Developer Ports Google Maps on iOS 6 (Video)

By -

Apple is putting all of its efforts to replace Google map from iOS, by introducing its own map, but this labor doesn’t seem to be successful, as the reviews say that Apple’s map is not so powerful as that of Google. The features and results are not up to the mark, that the Apple users were expecting. But there is always a third way to get what you want and here is where developers come in. Here are the details.

Apple claimed to introduce a better 3D map in the new iOS 6 with the iPhone 5 but the users seemed to be disappointed and therefore an iOS hacker and developer, Ryan Petrich has hacked Google Maps from iOS 5.1 and made it to work on iOS 6. He said,

Preview of the old Google Maps application from iOS5.1 and earlier running on an iPhone 3G S updated to iOS 6.0

Still crashy and cannot be distributed to the public yet, but it mostly works

One thing that has be kept in mind is that in order to get Google map onto iOS 6, you must have your iPhone jailbroken. Up til now this has only been introduced for jailbreak iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 on iOS 6. But it cannot be distributed so quickly and easily, thus you would have to wait for some time to get the better quality Google map onto your phone.

The tweak which will allow you to port Google Maps on iOS 6 is still in beta as there is still some major work to be done (you can see from the video) but sooner than later you are going to get Google Maps on iOS 6 thanks to Ryan Petrich, the developer who is currently working on porting Google Maps on iOS 6.
