Before we start the guide on how to downgrade iOS 6 to iOS 5.1.1, there are some things you should know. So definitely do read the notes section before attempting any on Maypalo.

Note Regarding downgrading firmware

This guide is only for those iOS devices who have an A4 processor that is iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and the iPod touch 4.

You will need to have your SHSH blobs saved for iOS 5.1.1 which could have been done via TinyUmbrella once you are jailbroken. Sometimes Cydia does save your SHSH blobs too.

People who rely on unlocking software such as Ultrasn0w should not attempt this unless you have a custom IPSW file for iOS 5.1.1, therefore keeping the baseband same.

Make sure you create a backup before attempting this downgrade guide for iOS 6.

Download iOS 5.1.1

Downgrading Procedure

STEP 1: Download redsnow 0.9.14b2 from the above link.

STEP 2: Now you will need to connect your iOS device to computer but make sure before doing that your iPhone or iPod is turned off.

STEP 3: If you know how to put your device into DFU mood, do that now. If you don’t follow the steps below

  • Hold down power button and home button both at the same time for 10 seconds
  • After the 10 seconds release the power button and still keep pressing on the home button for another 10 seconds

STEP 4: Launch Redsnow 0.9.14b2 and click on Extras followed by SHSH blobs.

STEP 5: Now select Stitch “Personalize IPSW with blobs”

STEP 6: Now you will need to select your SHSH blobs

If you have blobs that are saved on your computer or any other “local” place simply click on the Local button but if they are saved on Cydia on the Cydia button. You will need to put your device into DFU mood.

If you had not saved SHSH blobs but had accessed Cydia during iOS 5.1.1 there is a chance Cydia might have saved your blobs for you. So you are better of selecting the Cydia option.

STEP 7: Redsnow will now have created a new IPSW iOS 5.1.1 file. Now head back to main redsnow menu and click Pwned DFU. It is required for installing the custom IPSW file for your iPhone or iPod touch via iTunes.

STEP 8: Once it has entered Pwned DFU mood the screen of iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS or iPod touch will turn black and iTunes will detect it in recovery mood.

STEP 9: You are almost there. You will now need to restore your iOS device using the custom iOS 5.1.1 IPSW file we created.

STEP 10: Open iTunes and on the left panel under “devices” select your device.

STEP 11: Hold the Option key down (Windows users hold the Shift key down) and click on the ‘Restore‘ button

STEP 12: Now simply select the custom created IPSW file of iOS 5.1.1 and you are good to go.

iTunes might give you an error ( Error -1) you can simply ignore this as this will not affect your iPhone or iPod touch.

STEP 13: Now launch redsnow again and click on Extras followed by Recovery Fix. This will get your iOS device out of recovery mood.

That is it folks! You should now have your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS or iPod touch 4 running on iOS 5.1.1, downgraded from iOS 6. You can now jailbreak untether your iPhone using Absinthe or redsnow.
