When you normally hear the word “millions of dollars stolen”, you don’t normally associate to an Apple product. Well it’s time to link these two. $1.5 million worth of iPad minis have been stolen from JFP Airport, making it one of the biggest robberies involving Apple products.

In what might seem as a big security lapse, robbers took away with $1.5 million worth of iPad minis. The recently launched Apple product which has received quite a lot of criticism for being too expensive. Well no wonder why robbers have started targeting Apple products more than Android ones.

Robbers grabbed around 3600 iPad minis which were being imported from China and were destined to be distributed amongst resellers around U.S.

The robbery of these iPad minis took place around 11:00 pm last night at JFK airport building which hosted the “GoodFellas” robbery of 1978, which is currently the largest cash robbery in American history.

According to nypost

The crooks arrived at Building 261 around 11 p.m. in a white tractor trailer marked with the name CEVA on the side, according to the sources. They pulled up to the side of the airport building that faces onto a street and has less security than the other side, which is accessible from the airport tarmac.

It appears that this might have been an inside job as “someone” let the robbers come and leave without any problem.

The crooks loaded the iPad minis in a truck using the airport’s own fork-lifts according to the police. It apparently seemed that there was no one to stop this robbery from happening.

It seems that thieves are now targeting more and more Apple products as currently they are the most expensive smartphones/tablets in the market. Making them a very easy choice for crooks.

It’s not the first time iPads have been stolen. Last year $100,000 worth of iPad 2’s were stolen in less then 60 seconds, and more and more people have started smuggling iPhones.

This might not be the last time such a large amount of Apple products have been stolen, as they get more expensive, they become a high target for thieves.
