Well we finally have some good news for you guys. iPhone 5 running on iOS 6.0.2 has been jailbroken but the best news is that the jailbreak is an untethered one! Yup folks, we finally have an untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.0.2 for iPhone 5. More details below.
iOS 6.0.2 Untethered Jailbreak
The good news comes directly from one of the best hackers in the jailbreaking community, @planetbeing. Today @planetbeing via reddit mentioned something that would probably relieve many iOS users, iOS 6.0.2 has been jailbroken untethered!
Although iOS 6.0.2 untethered jailbreak has been made but the hacker mentions that he won’t release it right now. Bad news? Well not exactly. The reason iOS 6.0.2 untethered jailbreak has not been released is because of the new firmwares that are just round the corner. Releasing an untethered jailbreak right now would mean that bugs that are exploited to use for an untether jailbreak will be shown to Apple. Which would make Apple release a minor firmware upgrade to fix the untether jailbreak.
Here is what PlanetBeing has to say via reddit:
Yeah, I’m not really sure what all the doom and gloom is about. The fact is, I have an untethered iOS 6.0.2 JB running on my iPhone 5 right now. The reasons it’s not released are because 1. releasing it would burn an exploit we want to save for ourselves so we can always get in to look at new firmware and help JB in the future, 2. iOS 6.1 is coming very soon and will likely break a small part of it anyway, there’s no point in sacrificing the many bugs it won’t break.
Anyway, where there are 4+ bugs (that it took to get this to work), there’s gotta be one or two more so while jailbreaking is getting harder, reports of its death are highly exaggerated.
This is definitely great news for many people who not only have iPhone 5 but other devices running on iOS 6.0.2. Although we won’t be getting an untether jailbreak soon, but knowing there is a jailbreak available will be a sign of relief for many people.
