An image of the new curved device was leaked yesterday which resembled the Galaxy S 4. Well today we have the confirmation, not from any blog or media outlet but from the company itself – Samsung. Samsung has officially announced the Samsung Galaxy Round, its first curved-display smartphone.
We had been hearing about the curved display smartphone from Samsung for quite a long time. These prototypes were initially unveiled at this year CES where Samsung showed the new YOUM technology. A new breath-taking smartphones concepts where curved display was just the beginning.
Well Samsung has finally brought one of these new technologies to the final consumer – well, at least to South Korea.
Samsung has today released a press statement officially announcing “the world’s first curved display smartphone” – Samsung Galaxy Round.
So what features does the Samsung Galaxy Round pack? Nothing really ground-breaking except for the curved display. We should mention here that Samsung intended to release this smartphone to not “wow” the consumers but to be the world’s first tech company to announce the curved display smartphone. Something which it mentions repeatedly in the press release.
Samsung Galaxy Round features a 5.7″ Super AMOLED flexible display with 7.9mm thickness and weighs 154g. The phone runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean on a 2.3GHz quad-core processor.
Samsung has fitted it with a 13 mega-pixel rear camera and a 2 mega-pixel front-facing camera. It also packs in a nice 2800 mAH battery which should last you the entire day.
But the thing that is unique about the Samsung Galaxy Round is how it uses the flexible display. The curved shape of the Samsung Galaxy Round gives you the ability to check date, time, missed calls, messages and battery status without even turning on your phone – something which many of you might find useful.
Samsung has launched this curved display smartphone initially in South Korea for a price tag of $1000 – a premium for a product like this. It is expected this smartphone will be available worldwide soon but no date has been give.
Well what are your thoughts on the Samsung Galaxy Round?
