According to reports coming out of Korea, Samsung Electronics, Apple’s fierce competitor, is going to produce the next-generation chips for the iPhone and the iPad. The iPhone 6s and the next-gen iPad is going to feature the A9 chip according to the report.

This report about the A9 chip comes from the Korean ETNew, which mentions Samsung as the main supplier for the 14nm FinFET A9 microprocessor chip. This will be the first time Apple will use a 14 nm FinFET technology for the microprocessor.

Apple has been using Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) built chips previously. But for the first time, Apple is thinking to move to Samsung built 14nm FinFET technology.

So what are the advantages of using this type of technology? Well for starters, Apple’s current A8 processors are built using 20nm process. So using the 14nm FinFET will make the new processors smaller, but at the same time they will consume less more and be more efficient, i.e. more powerful.

Samsung will be using the plant in Austin,Texas which it recently built for manufacturing processors.

Well it is a new move from Apple and let’s see if this rumor turns out to be true or not.
