Apple Gives Update On The Jan 1, 1970 Bug

By -

Those of you who are worried that they might accidentally brick their iPhones, iPads or iPod touch, I have good news for you. Apple today issued a document regarding the bug, which has caused a big problem for a lot of people. Let’s look at the details below.

For those of you who are not aware, if you change the time and date settings on your iOS device to 1 Jan, 1970 and restart it, your iPhone gets bricked. Which in layman words means it gets useless as you will no longer be able to use your device.

A lot of people tried that and unfortunately the bug seems to be true for all iOS devices, so if you haven’t tried that do not do it. If you do you will have to buy a new iPhone.

Since then ‘1970 bug’ has garnered a lot of media attention, forcing Apple to issue a statement or document. In this case Apple issued a document telling people not to try this and they are going to release a software update to fix this problem.

This is definitely good news for those people who haven’t tried it yet (they shouldn’t). Apple didn’t mention whether they will be able to fix iOS devices that have been affected by it.
