It has been quite a while since we posted any rumours regarding the next generation iPhone, the iPhone 5. According to a new report today Apple has started internal testing of an iPhone with A5X processor and 1GB RAM.
The report comes from the folks over at 9to5mac who cite sources that Apple has seeded prototypes of next-generation iPhone to its employees who are now currently testing what could be the iPhone 5.
Unlike other prototypes of next generation iPhone, this iPhone is supposedly different from the previous ones as the design is unlike that of iPhone 4S and iPhone 4. But, due to leaks Apple is testing these with older casing, so as not to repeat what happened with the iPhone 4.
Like the new iPad 3, these iPhone’s are carrying an A5X processor with 1GB RAM. If you remember the A5X chip was specially designed for the new iPad’s retina display so it does not make much sense to put into an iPhone 5. But, according to the report this is done to see outcomes regarding next generation iPhone.
This prototype of the iPhone 5 which is being internally tested by Apple employees has the codename of N96. One thing we should remember is that the prototype of the iPhone 5 which is being currently tested is not the same as the one that will be released to the general public later this year.
The prototype that is being tested has a larger screen, most probably a 4 inch retina display. Although it is not confirmed at this moment. Previous reports indicated that Apple will launch a 4 inch retina display for the iPhone 5 so it makes sense.
