The time has finally come to buy your iPhone 6S or the iPhone 6S Plus. But unlike last year, this time you have new options of getting your iPhone. And, I’m going to show you on how to get a cheap unlocked brand new iPhone 6S and the iPhone 6S Plus.
Apple this year unveiled a brand new payment option for buying new iPhone’s. What this payment does is; it’s kind of like installment except that you get a new iPhone every 12 months! And, the best thing about it, is that, the brand new iPhone is unlocked!
You still have the normal payment options: which are the two-year contract ones and the full-paid one; for which you pay $649 up-front. The third one which gives you the option of paying monthly and does not get you stuck with a contract is the iPhone Upgrade Program.
There are various payment options but the cheapest one you can go for is the $32/month with Apple. Now you might have seen other carriers offering lower prices than these but they are not mentioning the insurance cost. The $32/month price for the iPhone 6S comes with insurance. So if you ever mess up your iPhone you can get it fixed or get a complete new one.
Let’s break it down further on what would happen if you choose the iPhone Upgrade Program from Apple:
- It’s a 24-month installment plan.
- New iPhone every 12 months.
- Lowest price including insurance is 32/month for the iPhone 6S 16GB model via Apple.
- Once you get a new iPhone, let’s say the iPhone 7. The payment cycle resets. So you will continue the 24-months payment.
If you do not like paying up-front costs or the entire amount in one go. Apple’s iPhone Upgrade Program seems the best option. Since I’m talking about buying the cheapest and unlocked iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, I have to list down something which might make you not go for the iPhone upgrade program and that is paying the full price in one go.
iPhone 6S Prices
The two charts below compare the prices between using the iPhone Upgrade Program and paying the full retail price. The ‘total price’ column shows the price you will be paying for the 24-month period.

*The retails price does not include insurance.
As you can see from the above charts, paying the full retail option is still the best when it comes to long-term payment solution. But for the short term, the iPhone Upgrade Program has the green signal.
The four major carriers in the U.S. offer something similar to the iPhone Upgrade Program from Apple but since those iPhones are not unlocked right out-of-the-box, therefore I’m not including them in this post.
Well folks, what do you think about buying a cheap unlocked iPhone 6S or the iPhone 6S Plus using the iPhone Upgrade Program?
