This is something most of us might not have expected, Apple might forgo with the home button for up-coming iPhones. Eliminating something that has been very close to Apple since the original iPhone; instead, it will prefer a new kind of technology - touch ID built directly into the screen.
Apple has been developing on what’s called the Touch and Display Driver Integration (TDDI), a single-chip solution for the iPhone. Now this is not completely new kind of technology, it has been integrated in other products but this will be available for the iPhone for the first time.
The TDDI chip which Apple is working on has fingerprint technology built directly into it, therefore Apple can simply remove the home button.
DigiTimes, which has a mixed track record when it comes to Apple mentioned: “The integrated design would fit into future iPhone designs – models with ultra-thin and ultra-narrow displays, and with a whole plane design eliminating the Home button.”
As you can imagine this is a great technology that can be used for even slimmer iPhones but will Apple actually remove the home button? That is a bit hard to decide as home button is one of the things that distinguishes the iPhone from other smartphones, and not only that, it is the only physical button we have on the iPhone.
Well, whatever the case maybe, things are going to get more interesting.
