Windows 10 is out and about. Not only that, around 14 million users have already downloaded and installed Windows 10 on their computers and are running on it without a hassle (not completely sure about that yet). If you are on a Mac and want to experience Windows 10 then I have the guide for you. Here is a simple guide on installing Windows 10 on a Mac for free.
Install Windows 10 on Mac
Before you begin downloading and installing Windows 10 on your machine. There are some important things to note. So check out the important note section and all the other bits of information below before attempting the guide.
Important note:
Back-up all your data before attempting this guide. Although it might not cause a problem but just to be on the safe side it’s a good idea to back-up.
System Requirements for installing Windows 10 on Mac
- Processor:1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster processor or SoC
RAM:
1 gigabyte (GB) for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit
- Hard disk space:16 GB for 32-bit OS 20 GB for 64-bit OS
Other Requirements
- An empty Flash Drive minimum 16 GB.
- Internet connection (the file is 3 GB so fast internet connection will get the job done quickly).
- Windows 10 ISO file (guide below).
- 30 GB of free space (for fresh installs).
- 40 GB for an upgrade from an existing Windows version.
- Admin account on Mac to access Boot Camp.
Complete Windows 10 Mac Installation Guide
Once you have read the above things and satisfy all of them you are good to go. But before anything we need to download Windows 10 Disc Image (ISO). To do that follow the steps below.
Step 1: Head over to Windows media creation tool.
Step 2: Now under ‘Select Edition’, click on ‘Windows 10’ and ‘confirm’.
Step 3: Now select your language and click confirm.
Step 4: Now you will see links for download Windows 10 ISO for 64 bit and 32 bit. Select the one for you (if you are using a new Mac, it is most likely 64-bit).
Step 5: Insert your Flash Drive.
Step 6: Now open ‘Boot Camp Assistant’ by pressing the ‘command + space bar’ or by finding it through ‘Finder’.
Step 7: Click Continue.
Step 8: Check all three boxes if you are installing it for the first time or going for a clean install. If you are upgrading from a current Windows then uncheck the first one. Click continue.
Step 9: Now select the ISO file you downloaded and choose your destination Flash Drive.
Step 10: Click continue.
Step 11: Now it is going to take a lot of time, probably an hour or so. It might seem stuck at some points but it is not. Let the process complete.
Step 12: Once the process is complete, it will ask you to partition. This step is important as it can not be undone. Select the right amount, if you are not going to be using Windows 10 a lot then put around 20-30 GB (minimum is 20 GB) but if you are going to be using it a lot or going to run big applications on it then put a lot.
Step 13: Click ‘install’.
Step 14: Once Windows 10 is installed, it will restart a few times.
Step 15: Now you will be asked where to install Windows 10 on. Select the partition labelled as ‘Boot Camp’ and follow the on-screen instruction.
Step 16: When you are asked for the product key, enter it. The product key can be found in the email that was sent to you from Microsoft when you requested for a Windows 10 upgrade, or you can ask a friend for the product key. Windows 10 is a free upgrade for users who are running Windows 7, 8 and 8.1.
Step 17: Once everything is done, you can switch between Windows 10 and OS X by restarting your Mac. When it is restarting press the ‘option alt’ key.
