38 Comments to Restore SAM Unlock Activation Ticket To Unlock iPhone On iOS 5.1.1 (Guide)

  1. For me, i will stay forever and not try anything else that will danger my SAM unlock, i’ve waited too long to try anything, i will stay at 5.0 ’till the end of my iphone 🙂

  2. SAM Saved Activation Tickets works fine with iOS 5.1.1 and I can confirmed this.

I have successfully ported my SAM Unlock Ticket to iOS 5.1.1 by this method:

    1. Restore your iPhone, using a custom firmware with no baseband update.

    2. After you restored, Jailbreak your iPhone, I suggest to use redsn0w 0.9.11b4 for jailbreaking. ***TICK*** on ***DE-ACTIVATE*** option. So you will have the ticked options of “Install Cydia” & “De-Activate”.

    3. Once redsn0w completed the jailbreaking process. Reboot again your iPhone.

    4. Open iFunbox, or any tools that you can use to explore your iPhone. Then navigate to *** /var/root/Library/ *** , then delete the stock “Lockdown” folder. And replace it with your SAM Activation “Lockdown” saved ticket. Reboot 2x if necessary. Then you see now signal bars from your unofficial carrier.

    • Can u tell me how much time it takes to create custom firmware?does it depends on the speed of the internet or what?can u tell me?if u can then please reply me through mail.thank u

  3. Can I use this method I am first time user of the SAM unlock? I have iPhone 4 5.1.1 firmware 4.12.01. Let me know please?

  4. people like me are always confused when some one says it works and another one says it does not work. Can we have some more votes on works and does not work. No one would want even a 1% chance of loosing the unlock which we earned with some much of difficulty all over again,

  5. @CHANDRA: Well, those that say they tried and it worked, basically as Maypalo, they listen to someone that said it _did_ work and then to drive traffic to this site they publih an appropriately named article and no video proof no nothing so don’t get confused, simply DON’T upgrade to 5.1.x you’ll most likely as I did LOOSE your SAM unlock and going back or doing anything won’t fix it.

I’ll believe when I actually see a video of someone doing as I did. 1. Unlock with SAM (not possible anymore) but saving SAM activation tickets, then upgrading to 5.1.5, then JB’ing 5.1.1 and restoring SAM unlock. ’cause I’ve not seen any proof of that happenijng and It’ll probably never show up.

    Thanks.

    • KALASH i have upgrade my iPhone bb 04.11.08 iOS 5.0.1 and i have restored my SAM activation tickets and they work fine, the tickets work in any IOS.

        plz

    • @KALASH
If you can only do the process again using my guide. You might end up thanking me for the simple guide that works 100%.

  6. Farhan i would like to know if my SAM restore tickets will work with another sim from my carrier with the same number or only with the sim i did SAM unlock?

  7. One person says it works, another person says it doesn’t work…Until this is confirmed, I’ll stay on 5.1 just to be sure my iPhone 4 can still make phone calls. I only have one iPhone, so if this one will stop working I have nothing and will have to buy a new one.

  8. its better u don’t update what u got in 5.1.1?? bullshit so don’t update and if u want to update u can do preserve bb and then do the above process and its works g8

  9. It is working with 5.1.1 until I got Signal Dropping Issue under 5.1.1. Which I found out it was really an issue in 5.1.1 even with factory unlocked iPhone.. So i reverted back to 5.0.1 using again my SAM saved tickets without having any difficulties at all, using the guide I had provided.

  10. Once Again:

Upon seeing lot of people confused if their saved SAM Activation Ticket will work once they upgraded or downgraded. The answer is “YES” it is working 100% with iOS 5.1.1. And the best practice is to preserve always your iPhone baseband everytime you restore or downgrade (remember MuscleNerd’s advice – Stay on a lowest possible baseband ever). You can use sn0wbreeze or redsn0w to create your customized firmware (preserving baseband).
Here are the procedures on How to use your SAM Activation Ticket whenever you upgrade/downgrade iOS. I prefer you to use redsn0w 0.9.11b4 in Jailbreaking 5.1.1. (Note: This redsn0w version supports tethered mode only)
    Files you need:
    • sn0wbreeze 2.9.5
    • iOS 5.1.1 Official Firmware
    • redsn0w 0.9.11b4
    • iFunbox (or any tool that can explore your iPhone system files)

    Steps:
    1. Create custom firmware using sn0wbreeze 2.9.5 and select the “Baseband Preservation Mode” option. Once finished, your custom firmware is saved in your desktop, and then proceed on pawning your iPhone in DFU mode.
    2. Once you’re done in putting your iPhone in DFU mode. Open iTunes then SHIFT-RESTORE and browse for the custom firmware you created earlier in sn0wbreeze. Wait until the restoration/upgrade completes.
    3. After you successfully restored/upgraded your iPhone. Proceed now in jailbreaking your iPhone using redsn0w 0.9.11b4 (Note: This version of redsn0w supports tethered jailbreak only) with these options: “Install Cydia” & “Deactivate”, make sure these two options are “Checked”. Then follow on screen instruction of redsn0w.
    4. Once you’re successfully Jailbroken your iPhone. Tether boot your iPhone with redsn0w 0.9.11b4 Tool.
    5. After Tethered Boot, Open iFunbox, navigate to /var/root/Library /
Delete the stock “Lockdown” folder and then replace it with your saved SAM Activation Ticket “Lockdown” folder.
    6. Turn Off your iPhone and tether boot again.
    7. You should now see Signal bars of your SIM Carrier.
    8. Congratulations!
    Add-Ons.
    9. After successfully porting back your SAM Activation Ticket to 5.1.1. Open now your Cydia and let it update to the latest current packages available.
    10. After Cydia updates, Install “Rocky Racoon” from Cydia to turn your tethered jailbreak to untethered. Then Reboot! – Your iPhone should now reboot normally without using redsn0w tool anymore.
    11. Congratulations you have now an iPhone running iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbroken with working SAM Activation Ticket ported.

    • @WANNABEE: Thanks for the great guide, easy to follow but I’m sorry to tell you that it was a NO NO, again.

It’s quite weird you know, I unlocked using SAM, saved activation with redsn0w and got them for my two SIMS, I also d/l’d Cookie and made a backup, I dumbly upgraded to 5.1.1 tethered after unlocking, I tried iFunbox, iFile, WinSCP, Dropbox, all methods and I get “No Service” all the time.

Another glitch is that after I upgraded to 5.1.1, tehered boot the phone and installed cookie it spitted a “Never backed up” message about my SAM tickets.

I’m stuck with a stupid expensive paper weiht playing music, I checked and my IMEI is not blacklisted and I don’t try another SIM from the same carrier because AFAIK SAM tickets are for that specific SIM.

If anyone can offer a suitable solution appart from WANNAB (many thanks), it’d be very welcome. :’(

    • Just try it again and keep your eye on every step posted.
Even me, had failed to get SAM to work on iOS 5.1.1. But after a few try using the guide I posted. It worked like a charm. I even managed to downgrade again back to 5.0.1 because of the Signal Drop issues I encountered.

Downgraded back to iOS 5.0.1 and currently running and using SAM Activation ticket for two days now. ^_^

If I got an extra time, I am glad to create a video tutorial on How to port SAM Activation Ticket.

      • Well, I’ve tried it with mostly every guide I’ve come across, now the last attempt was to make a custom IPSW with sn0wbreeze which comes already JB’ed and with SSH, I connected to my phone with WinSCP deleted stock Lockdown folder, then put my own, restarted and boom, shame, No Service again, I did your advise with 5.0.1, 5.1 and 5.1.1 and no luck, weird thing two SIMS that worked when SAM came out, now they just don’t, I looked for IMEI being blacklisted and it retuns unblockeda. I’m clueless now, will i have to pay eBay people to get it unlocked?, it’s locked to Vodafon UK.

        • After u done this did u go to SAM and under subscriber artificial module turn off the enable button but before make sure method is on auto detect

    • Do I also wonder … may be you can give me a hand, email me if you can david [_AT_] dghvoip [_DOT_] com_nospam

      Hope to hear from you.

  12. Guys plz help me with this as soon as possible I am porting my number to a different carrier but my phone number is same will I looose my unlock ????

    • You’re dead, as soon as you change carrier the unlock will go away, remember unlock is for a specific carrier/SIM.

      Don’t port

  13. In order to be able to use this correctly, do you have to have backed up the baseband activation tickets from brevious basebands?
As I cant get this to work at all.
    Cheers, Longshaw

  14. How would i know if i have saved my activation ticket?? I want to try this method but im not sure if i successfully saved my activation ticket. Please help. Thanks!

  15. i did all the steps above and nothing was working until i downloaded samprefs and went to utilities and pressed revert lockdown to stock and i got my signal so for anyone having trouble just do this and it should work

  16. my iphone 3gs on 6.15.00 is unlocked with sam and now im trying to unlock my iphone 4 on 4.11.08. will this work? or do i need to be on the same baseband? also what is the activation ticket actually called, is it the wildcard file?

  17. Muhammad Haseeb

i was running my iphone 4 (BB 4.11.08) with the SAM unlock since it came. then it crashed and went into restore mode. i tried to kick it out of restore with redsnow without success. rluctantly i decided to restore it to 5.1.1 since i had saved the SAM unlock activation tickets. i preserved my baseband and upgraded to 5.1.1
but now i cant unlock my phone. i have followed the above tutorial more than once. except i jailbreak it with redsnow, since absinth requires an activated phone, and i dont have the original AT&T sim. but “no service” prevails.
i tried wannabee’s tutorial but after the ‘check deactivate in redsnow’ step, i cant proceed further because i dont understand what he means by ‘activate your phone using wifi’. i repeat i dont have the original carrier’s sim.
    help please?
