Today is a big day for the WhatsApp community and Facebook, the parent company. The most popular messaging platform in the world today got end-to-end encryption. If you don’t know what that means; well, you can now freely talk about anything on WhatsApp without being in fear that someone or the government can read your messages. But not every message has the end-to-end encryption and here is how you can verify WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption for a specific chats.
If you have the latest version of WhatsApp then it is going to have the end-to-end encryption but do note that the recipient of your message also needs to have the latest build.
Once that is done you are set but just to make sure that it does indeed have the end-to-end encryption you follow a few steps. Here is how to verify WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption.
Step 1: Open the chat and tap on the message which shows info about the encryption.
Step 2: A message box will pop up, tap on ‘verify’.
Step 3: You should see a QR code and below it random numbers.
Step 4: You can either compare the numbers or you can tap on scan code and scan the QR code of the person you are chatting with. If the numbers match, it should give a green tick meaning your message is encrypted.
This is a quick and easy way of verifying your encryption with the person.
Unlike other messaging apps, WhatsApp has end-to-end encryption which means there can be no man-in-the-middle attack which some user’s can face.
If you worry about privacy or needed some other encryption to transfer secret information; you can now put WhatsApp on the list.
