iPhone 3GS which according to many had become simply outdated and was no longer selling, but Apple brought it back to life by giving it for free with a two year contract. Which was later revised to $1.
Now according to DigiTimes, Apple has upped its production of iPhone 3GS to 2 million units in fourth quarter of 2011.
Apple has been increasing its penetration into entry-level smartphone markets and the OEM production of iPhone 3GS has continued steadily with the volume likely to reach two million units in the fourth quarter of 2011 and 1.4-1.6 million units in the first quarter of 2012, according to industry sources
This was in par with Apple’s strategy to enter in to the developing countries with a low priced iPhone. Keeping this in mind Apple brought forward a lower priced iPhone 4, the 8GB iPhone 4 to be precise.
People who could not afford to buy an iPhone before have now access to the world of iOS through iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 4 8GB.
